Why You Might Need Hygienist Treatment?
- Red, puffy swollen gums.
- Bleeding gums when flossing or brushing.
- Bad breath or halitosis.
- Staining caused by cigarettes, tea, coffee and red wine
Gingivitis – This is the earliest stage of gum disease, an inflammation of the gums caused by plaque build-up at the gum line. If daily brushing and flossing do not remove the plaque, it produces toxins (poisons) that can irritate the gum tissue, causing gingivitis. You may notice some bleeding during brushing and flossing. At this early stage in gum disease, damage can be reversed, since the bone and connective tissue that hold the teeth in place are not yet affected
How They Work?
Your sessions with the hygienist will be prescribed after seeing your dentist for a full mouth assessment (or check up). Your dentist will then write a prescription to the hygienist advising on the treatment you need and appointment lengths.
At your appointment with the hygienist you may have a anaesthetic cream applied and, depending on what your dentist has prescribed, you may have you teeth hand scaled, ultrasonically scaled, polished, ProphyJet cleaned, or a combination of all.
The hygienist will then recommend when you should return for your next visit, with in the prescription date.
