A dental implant can make a good smile great

There are very few people in the world that can look in the mirror and be perfectly happy with the smile they see reflected back at them. The quest for a perfect smile is one which, in the past, has been the preserve of people such as Hollywood film stars, but modern dental treatments have brought such perfection within the reach of ordinary people, meaning that anyone can, in time, have the teeth they’ve always wanted. The imperfections which trouble people can range from a single badly stained, chipped or damaged tooth to a smile which is crooked or an entire set of teeth which require whitening. One of the things which can have the most damaging effect upon the overall impact of a smile, however, is the unsightly gap caused by a missing tooth or teeth. Knowing that such a gap is there, no matter what the underlying cause, can have a devastating effect upon a person’s confidence, making them apprehensive each and every time they open their mouth to smile or speak, fearful of the poor impression their teeth are creating. Not only will this, in itself, have a detrimental effect upon a person’s social and working life, but a gap such as this can cause the other teeth in the mouth to shift over time, a phenomenon which will change the very shape and nature of a person’s face.

The reasons for a gap of this kind can vary widely. Whether it’s a single tooth which isn’t there, or more than one, the causes can encompass gum disease, simple tooth decay or trauma brought about by an accidental incident. In the past, a situation such as this may have been something which patients simply had to put up with, but the standards set by modern dentistry mean that this is no longer the case, and the treatments offered are flexible enough to meet the demands of all and any patients.

One of the quickest, easiest and most effective treatments for this problem is the fitting of a tooth implant. A visit to a dental implant clinic in London, and an appointment with a dentist, will be the start of a process which leads, relatively quickly, to the gap or gaps being filled and the smile being restored to its original glory. During this initial consultation, the dentist will undertake an assessment, sometimes involving the use of radio graphs, after which a detailed treatment plan will be drawn up, with the patient kept fully informed at all times of everything that’s going to happen, what it will entail and how much it will cost. Dental implants take the form, initially, of a small titanium rod which is attached to the jawbone itself at the point of the missing tooth. Once this rod is in place it will perform the function of the original root, forming a strong permanent anchor onto which a crown, bridge or denture can be fitted. One of the chief advantages of this form of treatment is that it replaces both the tooth and the root in a permanent manner, and, if looked after properly, will last in perfect condition for many years.
