Surgical Procedure

Most dental implant surgery procedures are performed in the dentist’s office and occasionally in a hospital setting. Each surgical procedure is performed depends on the type of implant and the condition of your jawbone, but all dental implant surgery occurs in stages and may involve several procedures.

The major benefit of implants is solid support for your new teeth — a process that requires the bone to heal tightly around the implant. Because this healing requires time, the process can take many months.

Treatment usually takes a minimum of three stages.

  1. The first stage usually involves the placement of the dental implant itself.
  2. The second stage involves taking impressions of the healed implant.
  3. The third stage is when the implant restoration is secured onto the dental implants.

The implants are placed in the bone using a gentle surgical technique.

All bone preparation drilling is carried out under profuse irrigation using either saline or sterile water to avoid overheating of the bone.

Following the implant placement procedure, the implants are left undisturbed for a period of 3 to 9 months so that the bone can grow around the dental implants to form a strong biological bond to them.
