How Implants Work

Dental Implants are like artificial ‘tooth roots’. Made of biocompatible titanium, they are inserted into the jaw to support one or more missing teeth. Once inserted into the jaw bone, a biologic process known as ‘osseointegration’ takes place, in which the implant and bone fuse together.

This allows the implant to act as an anchor for the dental prosthesis, replicating the function of natural teeth to keep the jawbone healthy. The prosthetic replacement can be a fixed dental crown for a single tooth or a bridgework prosthesis for a set of teeth.

How Long Does Dental Implant Treatment Take?

As with most dental implant treatments, timescales depend on the individual. The procedure itself can be done in as little as 30 minutes for a single implant, however, usually, the false teeth are fitted 3 to 4 months after the implants are put in - to allow the implant to heal. But don't worry, you won't be left with a gap. We'll supply you with some temporary teeth in the meantime!

Once your tooth implant treatment is complete, your dental implants will last a lifetime with good maintenance and you can rest assured that throughout and after your treatment we'll be there to help and care wherever we can.
