Real Smiles True Hygienist Stories

I’d been searching for a dentist in Chester for some time & came across Vicars Cross on a friend’s recommendation. My teeth are fairly good with no obvious issues so I joined the lower cost Denplan Essentials plan. My 1st appointment gave me confidence in the practice which seems very professional & efficiently run. The check up was thorough & followed up by a visit to the hygienist today which was excellent. Very pleased so far.

I am always nervous going to the dentist as I don't like the sound, or feeling, of metal on teeth. I had no need to worry, the dentist and hygienist were extremely considerate and compassionate, they put my mind at rest, and I had an extremely positive experience. I have recently moved to this practice and should have done so sooner, without doubt, my best experience at the dentist.

Visited the dentist who was friendly and professional and I was referred to the hygienist for a deep clean. I was able to make an appointment there and then for the following week. I was put at ease throughout and the hygienist kept checking I was ok. The most comfortable hygienist appointment I have had in many years. The on line booking systen works well and you are sent a reminder to book your routine appointments and reminders when the appointment is due.

Been to Vicars Cross Dental practice this week and must comment of excellent care yet again. I have mobility issues and my husband dropped me off across the road. One of the practice nurses was walking in at the same time as me and greeted me with a friendly smile and said my husband could park outside the practice. Every member of staff is friendly. Dental hygienist was considerate to my mobility problems. Laura the dentist was cheerful as ever. From someone who had a dental phobia I’m someone who now finds a trip to the dentist as a pleasurable experience.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hygienist Treatments

While daily brushing is essential, it cannot remove hardened plaque (tartar). A hygienist uses specialised tools to clear this stubborn buildup, directly preventing gum recession, cavities, and bad breath (halitosis) that a standard toothbrush simply cannot resolve.

A hygiene clean is not a bleaching treatment, but it will make your teeth appear naturally brighter. By expertly removing tartar deposits and surface stains caused by smoking, tea, or coffee, the true colour of your enamel is instantly revealed.

Routine cleans are typically completely pain-free. If you have sensitive teeth or severe gum inflammation, you might feel mild discomfort. To ensure your comfort, we offer longer appointment times for a gentle approach and can apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb your gums beforehand.

Yes, you can usually eat and drink straight away. However, if you undergo a prophy jet (airflow) clean for targeted stain removal, you must avoid highly staining items like tea, coffee, red wine, beetroot, and smoking for at least two hours.

Most patients benefit from a professional hygiene visit every six months. If you suffer from bleeding gums, periodontitis, or wear orthodontic braces, your dentist may prescribe more frequent visits (such as every three to four months) to keep aggressive plaque buildup under control.

If your gum treatment requires a series of visits, we can help make it easier to manage financially. Klarna allows you to divide the total cost into three fixed monthly payments, so you can continue your care without interruption.
